Quick experimental art series ✂️ playing with cutout silhouettes, layered paper, paint textures and blending modes.
This particular test project involved tearing out pages from the book 'In the Company Of Women' by Grace Bonney, cutting out the figures and seeing how the negative space sheets interacted with coloured papers, other torn pages and brushstroke paint textures. Once I scanned in all my layers to Photoshop, I then played with blending modes until I found colour and texture combinations that really popped.
Self-initiated collage projects like this one always prove useful to squeeze in between commissions. It’s a chance to keep my brain sharp and test colour, composition and visual language without a set brief dictating the outcome.
I find working intuitively like this and letting happy accidents take over often results in much freer, looser and more playful artworks.
