I've had the pleasure of working with Frontier Magazine, produced by Blaze Media, across the past four issues of the quarterly print publication.
These were the first pair of editorial collage illustrations I was commissioned to create for Issue 3. One accompanied a story exploring the downfall of high-profile rapper Kanye West, examining his increasingly fractured, villain-like public persona. The other supported a discussion of the rise and fall of former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
I'm really pleased with how both digital collage illustrations turned out. While the Kanye piece is more graphic, slick and segmented, the Kwame illustration feels more tactile, crafted from a variety of paper textures. Despite their contrasting approaches, they still feel like they belong together within the same issue.
I've included a couple of alternative colourways, along with an early concept that leaned much further into a darker more villainous direction.
A big thanks to Peter and Miguel for the continued opportunity to work with Frontier Magazine.
