‘Transforming Filwood’ is a five-minute collage animation created with Reuben & Co, telling the story of Filwood and Knowle West in South Bristol.
Working with an incredible archive of local photography, footage, textiles, artwork and more, we built a vibrant visual history of the area and its community-led regeneration.
I worked alongside Reuben Armstrong on the art direction and animation, developing the eclectic collage style and bringing hand-crafted elements, cut-out imagery, paper textures and layered compositions to life through an array of movements and transitions.
The animation combines digital collage and analogue textures, with the artwork built and animated in Photoshop and After Effects to create this tactile, layered feel.
The film celebrates decades of creativity, activism and community arts, showing how local people have helped shape the future of Filwood. What a fantastic project to be a part of!
