This editorial collage animation was created for Noema Magazine to accompany an article exploring the spread of misinformation across today's news and social media.
I built up layers of fake news that multiply and overwhelm, featuring Donald Trump soundbites, exaggerated statistics and scaremongering news bulletins. As these elements accumulate, they form a dark, chaotic backdrop that contrasts with a bright, clean foreground.
In the foreground, smaller groups of people are connected, talking and engaged with one another, a visual representation of the article's central idea that meaningful conversation and community may be our best antidote to misinformation. I've also included a selection of concepts that formed part of the creative journey towards the final execution, offering a glimpse into how the visual narrative evolved.
It's always a pleasure when an Art Director commissions animation as part of the final piece, and it felt particularly effective here. Bringing the collage to life allowed the central themes of the article to unfold, reinforcing the relentless spread of misinformation before revealing a more hopeful counterpoint.
