Hand-made analogue collage art of Sri Lankan monkey and Galle lighthouse. Cutout paper cut and placed scrapbook illustrations including bananas, palm trees, patterns, textures and shapes.
mixed media collage animation frames, hand illustrated frame by frame using analogue techniques. Colourful tuk tuks and Vesmuhunu with various textures.

Self-initiated analogue collages and mixed-media animations inspired by a trip to Sri Lanka.

The monkey and lighthouse collages were handmade by printing images onto torn magazine pages and random scraps of paper I found lying around. I kept cutting, placing, moving and rearranging until it felt like something belonged. Quite a fun brain exercise in colour, texture and composition.

For the animation, I took digital collage layers into After Effects, built the transitions, dropped the frame rate and exported around 50 frames as a png sequence. I printed contact sheets, drew over some of the frames with biro and coloured pencil, scanned everything back in, and let the imperfections and print marks become part of the chaos.

Some of my favourite outcomes happen when there’s no brief, no rules, just my own photos and a playful sense of curiosity. I enjoy experiments like this that pull me away from the polished digital finish and back to something more tactile, with rough scissor edges, print grain, real paper shadows and all the imperfections that come with making something totally by hand.
