An editorial collage illustration artwork depicting Sugar Dating. A dark silhouette of a mans head is held by red gloved female hands, wrapped around his neck and shoulders seductively. Hotel room and luxury travel scenes fill the background

Editorial collage for The Persistent to accompany a feature exploring why some women in their 30s are turning to sugar dating as a means of financial stability in today’s economy, written by Brianna Holt.

The brief and focus for this piece; to visualise these women becoming increasingly anonymous and secretive whilst paradoxically gaining greater agency of their lives. The final illustration uses cutout paper silhouettes as windows into a carefully constructed life of luxury dating and transactional relationships.

The fast-turnaround nature of this commission meant there wasn’t time to overthink, which interestingly resulted in a quieter collage with softer textures and a more muted palette. A notable shift from my typical high-contrast, graphic, maximalist approach.

Thank you to Francesca Donner for thinking of me for this one!
