Turning old cuttings and artworks into something new ✂️

I used to obsessed with making these abstract shape artworks and patterns. They were vibrant, energetic and maximalist in their approach. I built up quite the collection, sketching them out on my iPad as a kind of creative meditation. When I fully turned my attention to collage, they disappeared into the archives.

Fast forward to a recent hard drive sort out and I found them again and felt this urge to utilise them. I also found a tear-out that I’ve been sitting on for years from the Nasty Galaxy coffee table book, published a decade or so ago. It’s been collecting dust, but I finally found a use for it!

The final piece of inspiration; discovering recent animations by Stina Persson who I’ve admired since my university days. And voilà… a pretty mad hectic but super satisfying animation short. A study in shape, colour, collage, mark-making and the female form through playful experimentation.

I've included my favourite 24 static frames from the 200+ that make up this experimental collage animation.

This self initiated project was a very fun collision of handmade paper collage, digital renders, abstract shapes, colour, texture, mark-making and After Effects experimentation
